THE METAMORPHOSIS
Inspired by Ovid’s timeless masterpiece, Le Metamorfosi is an immersive experience conceived and directed by Giuliano Peparini and produced by INDA – the National Institute of Ancient Drama, bringing together myth, nature, theatre, dance and video mapping.
In Syracuse, for the first time, the Latomia del Paradiso (UNESCO World Heritage Site) became the setting for an immersive and interactive experience of this scale. The stone, caves, vegetation and pathways of the ancient quarry become an integral part of the creation itself. More than one hundred artists bring Ovid’s universe to life through movement, music, imagery and site-specific interventions, as figures such as Daphne, Narcissus, Orpheus and Eurydice emerge from the landscape.
There is no longer a traditional stage or auditorium: the audience moves through the performance itself.
The 22 sold-out performances mark the first chapter of the project. From Syracuse, Le Metamorfosi continues its journey to Rome, where Giuliano Peparini reimagines the work in a new site-specific version created for Villa Borghese.
About the project
The monumental scale of the project comes to life through a company of more than 100 artists, including dancers, acrobats, performers and musicians.
Professional artists and young performers from the Academy of Ancient Drama (Accademia d’Arte del Dramma Antico) and the Peparini Academy come together in a large-scale ensemble creation, where different disciplines, artistic languages and generations share the same space.
Produced by INDA, The National Institute of Ancient Drama, the project was developed in collaboration with the Archaeological Park of Syracuse, transforming the Latomia del Paradiso into a space for experimentation where cultural heritage meets contemporary performance.
