THE FOUR SEASONS

WHERE YOUR HEART TAKES YOU

2021 – 2023 | Italy, France

The four seasons of the year are like
the seasons of love.

SPRING

The first glances that cross paths modestly...

SUMMER

...The fire of passion...

AUTUMN

...The progressive sleep...

WINTER

...The frost of the relationship

Plot

This creation by Giuliano Peparini, with the music by Antonio Vivaldi and Domenico Scarlatti, features international étoile Eleonora Abbagnato.

Time passes inexorably, transforming everything it touches. And first and foremost: love and its actors. This is the starting point for the one-act ballet directed and choreographed by Giuliano Peparini.

Over the course of the seasons, four couples – four stories – tell each other: from the first glimpses of each other’s love (spring), to the fires of passion (summer), to their gradual extinction (autumn), to the freezing of the relationship (winter).

On stage, a giant tree has planted its roots deep in the successive emotions that the dancers go through… In the face of time and its spells, which sometimes sweep away everything in its path, or, on the other hand, carry the marvellous hope of the rebirth of love; nature repeats its miracles and holds up a mirror in front of us as if to say: “Look at yourself!

Like the seasons, there are also four other elements that create the magic of this show: Poetry, Music, Scenography and Costumes.

E poi fate l’amore (And then make love)” by Alda Merini, an extract from “The Prophet” by Kahil Gibran, “Love’s growth” by John Donne, “Summer” by Cesare Pavese, “Autumn” by Vincenzo Cardarelli and “The dead leaves” by Jacques Prévert are the poems that accompany the ballet.

Among the various collaborations is Dior, who designed the clothes worn by Eleonora Abbagnato, and Alessandro Preziosi, who with his voice recites the interlude between one season and the next.

Details

This show was created after the beginning of the pandemic, and the choreographer managed to get the dancers to dance respecting the rules of social distancing.

A creation that shows how the limits imposed by contingency can become an opportunity for a new, unimaginable creativity.

As Peparini says “contact between the dancers was not allowed and the partner dances are conditioned by the use of protective devices, but it is true that bodies can express a lot, even on their own.
A contemporary ballet was born in the literal sense of the term: that is, it fell into our new contemporaneity, into a condition that we are still getting used to considering normal. Moreover, one of the recurring themes of  The Four Seasons – Where the heart takes you is, precisely, the space: the metaphysical space between the couple and the physical space of the stage that has always fascinated the choreographer.
